The Second Congressional District
Covering the northern third of Nevada, the 2nd congressional district includes most of Lyon County, all of Churchill, Douglas, Elko, Eureka, Humboldt, Lander, Pershing, Storey, and Washoe counties, as well as the state capital, Carson City. The largest city in the district is Reno.
The Republican incumbent Mark Amodei has been in office since 2011. He promotes his ability to work with others in Congress and his track record of helping his northern Nevada constituents. In particular, Amodei stresses his work in favor of veterans. According to his campaign website, Amodei also “advocates for Nevada’s self-determination, the protection of our resources and the ability for all Nevadans to earn a living.”
Ackerman, the Democratic challenger, is pro-environment, in favor of clean energy jobs, while also supporting a living wage for northern Nevada’s workers. As the child of parents who were victimized by Nazis, Ackerman is a big advocate for immigration and is against racism and inequality. On her campaign website, Ackerman pledges to support freedom, health care, education, and protect women and their rights.
